*If Kiliyen had forgotten his broken ribs before, he certainly remembers them now as each swing of the axe stretches the muscles and each strike against the door brings a painfully jarring shock. He finds, however, that the axe makes noticeably headway*
*Maddy will notice that Scum-Monkey does not take its eyes off of her for a second, staring at her most intently*

-Maddy watches him go into the cell and moves towards Kiliyen and whispers to him- Laddie, somethin' gonna happen Scum-Monkey just hid in a cell.... -she keeps her eyes watching around them in case something came out at them- keep ye eyes on that girl, I nae trust this laddie she may be somethin'.....besides a girl once ye free her...

*Leaning his shoulder against the heavy door as he rests, Kiliyen turns his head and looks at Maddy, then back inside at Carolyne, finding it hard to view her as dangerous, yet knowing Maddy is right. He looks back at Maddy again and whispers wearily* And if I don't free her, Maddy, you die.
*He looks back through the slot at Carolyne, his voice carrying a slight edge* I stopped because that god-forsaken scum-monkey poisoned us. What is its interest in you that it would force us here like that?

*Kiliyen returns Maddy's look, then glances down at the remains of the knight, wondering, but doesn't mention it to Carolyne* The scum-monkey is a dark creature which attacked and poisoned us. It said..
*He pauses, suddenly wondering if there is really any connection at all between what they are doing and the poison. Feeling like he may be making a fool of himself but knowing it's much too late now to do anything different he finishes* It made a spell of binding so that we had to come and free you, or the poison would kill us.
It is dark and has four legs and two batlike wings. What is it, and what is its interest in you? How is it that you are still alive in here?

*Tries to take a deep breath to sigh but is stopped by his ribs. He takes a fresh grip on the axe, but pauses*
Carolyne, my name is Kiliyen. An axe we have, but whether it is Garimond's or not, I have no clue. I haven't much choice except to try to free you, but what little choice I have I shall keep. I will chop at this door, but as I do, I want you to tell us how and why you are in this dungeon.
*He looks at the knight again, but decides it's better not to ask about him just yet. He begins chopping at the door, but will stop if she doesn't tell her story*

I.. I don't know how long. *she sniffles* It's been forever, it seems. I am sure it has been years and years. *weeps softly for several moments*
Shortly after Garimond and I were wed, I was attacked by a creature. I was to be sacrificed, but I didn't die. But the old ones said that if the altar wasn't destroyed, that I would turn into a creature like the one that attacked me.
Garimond and my father brought me here to protect me. The chains hold me as I am, preventing the change and keeping me safe. But it's been so long. *begins weeping again*
Garimond's axe is enchanted. He stayed by me for so long, but he said he would return. I'm so afraid something dreadful has happened to him. But his axe can break these chains.

*She starts to cry* Now you don't want to help me. But I do know they tried. Father went looking for it and Garimond stayed by me. But then there was such awful noise. Garimond said not to worry, but eventually he said he had to go and help Father find the altar.
He said he would return.. *she stops and cries* Please don't leave me here!

*Looks at Maddy, then looks back behind him at the hallway and the not to be seen Scum-Monkey. He whispers softly to Maddy* I've a sick feeling I know who won. *He looks back inside the cell at the unfortunate girl, dreading the thought that he will only have to kill her when he frees her*
*He shakes his head grimly, and whispers to Maddy* Those chains will be part of your treasure, Maddy. And this axe too, if it's the right one. *He glances at the dead knight* And I've a feeling it is. *He resumes chopping*

*Kiliyen is quite sore and weary when the door gives way, but give it does. Carolyne looks at the two of them, her face a mix of desperate hope and fear. Her eyes drop, however, to the floor beyond them, to the scattered bits of armor and bones. All expression leaves her face as she stares*

*Kiliyen leans against the doorway for a moment, getting a better look at the girl and resting, not wanting to wind up with cramps while trying to fight the girl when she turns. He follows her gaze to the dead knight* I'm sorry, Carolyne. Is he your husband, Garimond? *He enters the cell slowly, looking around, then back at the girl*
