*His fine hair is long and black, the foreward portion of it tied back in a ponytail, though the rest hangs loose, to his shoulder blades. He has an athletic build, a capable looking fellow as he takes a quick look around the tavern with grey-blue eyes*
*He goes to the bar and orders a glass of wine, his voice soft spoken. He does not meet the bartender's eyes as he orders, but it does not seem to be a matter of shame or shiftiness, rather of being preoccupied with other thoughts. He sits silently and sips the wine*

-Maddy gets his wine and takes his payment with a smile not noticing that the male does not look at her as she isn't really paying attention herself still miffed at the pirate that tried to get her to warm his bed for a price like a whore, she considers checking her person to see if she has a sign on her labeling herself one and shakes her head putting clean glasses away and muttering darkly to herself about males in general-

*Drinking his wine, he overhears the irritated muttering of the barmaid and raises his eyes to look at her. Seeing how pretty she is, he smiles faintly, guessing that one too many hands made contact this evening* Difficult evening, m'lady?

*He follows her gaze to the pirate, taking the fellow in. When she speaks, he looks back at her once more, amused to see that he was correct. He watches her a moment longer as she goes back to work, then returns to sipping his wine*

*Kiliyen studies the board for a moment, his hand straying to a pouch on his belt, feeling its contents as he considers* One week, I think.
*He nods to himself, confirming his decision and pulls the pouch from his belt and counting out the money indicated on the board. He hands the money to Maddy* There you go. May I see it now? I'll come back to the wine.

*He smiles and nods* Excellent. Thank you.
*He takes the key and stands, going up the stairs and into the room. He locks the door, making certain that it does so, then inspects the room thoroughly. He also tests the window and makes sure it opens, then shuts and latches it*
*Satisfied, he leaves once more, locking the door behind him and returning downstairs. He sits down by his wine and smiles at Maddy* The room is very good. Much better than I expected for the price. *He takes a sip of the wine*

So do you get mostly regulars in this place or do you have a lot of through traffic here? *he looks at Maddy and puts a bite of pie in his mouth*

*A Hard Day's Work* kiliyen
(23/M/On the run) 2/28/01 7:28 am
Kiliyen set out from the tavern and followed the road to Four Winds Crossing. As Maddy had suggested, it was more a village than a city, but it showed many signs that it was growing. After quite a few failed attempts, Kiliyen finally obtained work by helping a crew dig the basement for a new building.
His young body was strong and well used to excercise, but his hands were another matter. His right hand, toughened somewhat from practice with his blade, fared better than the left, but both were blistered by the end of the job.
The old foreman smiled as he handed Kiliyen his pay. "Ya lasted boy, when I thought ya woul'n't. You need more work, ya let me know. I'll see what I can give ya, or vouch fer ya to some'ne else."
Kiliyen looked at the man, startled. He had known the old man didn't think much of him when he started, and twice had seen him watching with a smirk on his face. He nodded marginally. "Thank you."
He was perhaps two thirds of the way back to the tavern when he heard a low, smooth voice speak to him from behind a large boulder. "You're a long way from Chelsea."

Kiliyen turned, facing the boulder and drawing his blade in a fluid motion. "That I am."
The man stepped out from behind the rock, smiling at him. "Tch tch tch. I should think holding a blade would be uncomfortable right now. Aren't your hands blistered from working like a common peasant?"
"Come find out. If you dare." In his heart, however, he was torn. The man's name was Rodlick, and he didn't like him. But he was in service to the crown. If Kiliyen killed him, he would be a true murderer.
"You dare draw against the crown?" Rodlick demanded in feigned shock. "I don't think you've got the guts," he added, drawing his own blade and advancing.
"Don't be a fool, Rodlick. Here, I tell you what. I'll give you a few nicks, and you can go home and say you tried." With that he launched an attack. They crossed swords and in short order Rodlick had the promised cuts.
He scowled, but refused to back down. "Very nice, Kiliyen, but I'm still here. And I still don't think you've got the guts." He attacked, and once again they dueled, but it was Rodlick who christened the earth with his life's blood.

Kiliyen stood gazing on the dead man at his feet, trying to decide how he felt about it. He was not pleased, but he could not feel regret. He felt numb.
Mechanically, he carefully cleaned his blade and resheathed it. He looked back at Rodlick. In the end, it was the concern that some innocent girl or child might spy the grizly corpse that prompted him to move it off the pathway and behind the boulder from which it had crept. He did not bury it.
Still numb, he resumed his trek towards the inn. It wasn't until he gripped the latch that he became aware of the pain in his hands. Entering the door, he looked at his palm in curiosity.
